Walter Charles Ruggles
Walter Charles Ruggles (Charlie) 91, passed away peacefully after a short illness in Sonoma on Oct. 5, 2012.
Charlie was born on Oct. 24, 1920, in Baraboo, Wisc., to Daniel and Blanche Ruggles, and moved to Sonoma in the 1930s. He joined the Navy during World War II and fought in the Pacific Theatre. He met and married Marianne Kynoch during the war and they raised their family in San Francisco and Corte Madera. They were married for 62 years until her death in 2007.
Charlie worked as an electrical engineer for the U.S. government at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard until his retirement. He and Marianne then moved to Sonoma where they owned and operated an antique shop on the Plaza.
Charlie was the father of the late Mark Ruggles and is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Ann Ruggles, of Sonoma, and many nieces and nephews. He was a very loving and dedicated family man.
At his request, no formal services will be held.
