Walk set through Mountain Cemetery
A walk through Mountain Cemetery to benefit the Sonoma Overlook Trail will take place Thursday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. as a fun and informational way to celebrate the Day of the Dead.
The day will finish up with a bloody punch and some ghoulish delights to nibble on.
Fred Allebach, the creator of the new brochure telling the stories of some of the most colorful people buried in Mountain Cemetery, will lead the walk. He moved to Sonoma in 2006 and, being an amateur historian, discovered the cemetery, leading him to wonder about these immigrants who were buried near Gen. Vallejo; he sensed a story that wasn’t being told. A chance meeting with Bob Parmelee, a local historian, opened up access to historical resources at the Depot Park Museum.
The cost is $30, and checks should be made out to Sonoma Overlook Trail and mailed to Hope Nisson, 3771 Cory Lane, Sonoma, CA 95476.
The Sonoma Overlook Trail is a joint project of the City of Sonoma and the Sonoma Ecology Center and is a nonprofit organization.
