Tough pair of SCL duals for Sonoma, hosts Casa Thursday

Having won their first two Sonoma County League dual-matches in separate weeks, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity wrestlers face a pair of tough SCL duals in one week.
The Dragons, who hit the league road for the final time tonight, when they battle at strong foe Windsor, will then host SCL rival Casa Grande at 6 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 26, in Golton Hall.
Last week, four Dragon varsity wreslters, including junior tri-captains Sam Denning, Giordi Serafini and Aidan Lacy, and sophomore Max Schimm, competed in the challenging Tim Brown Invitational in Sacramento, which featured the top-six wrestlers from each of 80 schools.
For Sonoma, Denning earned a top-12 finish with a 5-2 record, including two pins, at 122 pounds; Lacy finished in the top-16 at 3-2 with two pins at 222; Serafini was 2-2 with two pins at 128; and Schimm was 0-2 at 140.
On Saturday, the junior varsity Dragons wrestled the College Park Javyee Tournament and were led by freshman Jake Randuch’s first-place finish with a 3-0 record and one pin at 108 pounds; sophomore Harris Meglin’s second-place 2-1 with two pins at 115; senior Victor Virgen’s third-place 3-1 with two pins at 222; senior Jorge Oros’ 1-2 at 172; senior Austin Ericksen’s 0-2 at 162; junior Alex Ohan’s 0-2 at 154; frosh Jack Biaggi’s 0-2 at 134; frosh Amber Alquezada 0-2 at 140; and frosh Alyssa Christian’s 0-2 at 197.
