Hoping to carry into the postseason the momentum they built in wrapping up the regular season by winning their second straight Sonoma County League title, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls got off to a good start in their opening match of the SCL Tournament last night in Pfeiffer Gym.

The two-time champion and top-seeded Lady Dragons hosted fourth-seeded Healdsburg and, after early seesaw skirmishes, they put the hammer down for three stretch-runs and pounded out a convincing three-set-sweeping victory by 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 scores.

Sonoma was led by sophomore Mackenzie Albrecht’s all-around play and six kills, sophomore Delaney Swanson’s match-high 12 kills, and sophomores Hannah Herrick’s five kills and Ciara Smith’s four.

With the win the Lady Dragons, who claimed the league crown with an 11-1 mark, improved their overall record to 26-6 and will host third-seed Analy (17-9), which beat second-seed Petaluma (19-12) in their tourney opener, in the SCL Tourney title match at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 1, at Pfeiffer Gym.
