Editor, Index-Tribune:
To Speaker Boehner, Senator McConnell and the acolytes of Grover Norquist: Raise my taxes … please.
To everyone else: Go to fixthedebt.org and sign the petition.

There is no reason you can't pay more when you file, raising taxes will only give the government more money to waste. The government needs to get out of the way and allow people to become the best they can be.
Mr. Page, the idea that the debt can be addressed by raising taxes on a select few rich people is ill informed. Total future liabilities of the central government equal 222 trillion. One could confiscate all the wealth in the world numerous times over and still, it wouldn't pay the bill.
Economic growth is a far better option to reduce deficits, higher taxes are an obstacle to growth in a weak economy.
The aggregate debt will not be reduced until there are very large cuts in spending, ie, eliminate whole agencies and departments.
Or we could just jump off the cliff and see what happens and blame republicans for the bad outcome another four years.
Elizabeth, Obama only wants to raise taxes on the higher earners who can most afford it, and only by a small percentage. Raising taxes on those who can afford it will help us all out with, building roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, police departments, fire departments, public works projects, maintaining our military, and the basic infrastructure of what makes America great.
Although thank you so much for your generosity in offering to pay more in taxes than you need to when you file; wish more people had your kindhearted liberal attitude.
Tom...wish that was true but everyone is going to
pay more taxes under Obama. My taxes are higher
under Obama and I don't make no where near $250K
as YOU stated would be the range that would pay
more.
I'd be thrilled to be in the highest tax bracket. Wouldn't you?
Charles, were one in the highest bracket, at least they would have a legitimate claim at being an even 'greater American!'
That’s correct Wayne; I did state that previously, because it’s true.
The CBO recently released a report confirming our tax rates under Obama have been at their lowest levels since 1979. Income tax payments this year will be 13% lower than they were in 2008, and corporate taxes are lower by a third. Also, as a share of the economy, our taxes this year will be the lowest since 1950.
The Tax Institute at H&R Block compared 2008 and 2010 tax bills for families at various income levels, showing taxpayers saw their bills drop under Obama because of tax credits for college students, working families, homebuyers and the working poor; thanks to Obama’s economic stimulus.
If you complain about paying too many taxes, don’t worry; I do too. But the fact is we’re paying the lowest tax rates since the fifties, due in part to the tax cuts provided under the Obama administration.
Phineas, you said: “Charles, were one in the highest bracket, at least they would have a legitimate claim at being an even 'greater American!'”
Sorry Phineas, but making a lot of money does not a “great American” make. Folks that volunteer to help others are closer to defining who a “great American” is. Look to those that volunteer their time and themselves to nonprofits, volunteer organizations, service organizations, firemen, police officers, our military servicepeople; these in y opinion are “great Americans.” Not high earner wealthy folks like Romney for example, who hide their money in the Caymens so they don’t have to pay taxes that contribute to the betterment of America.
Tom...I can only go with REAL numbers. That being my W-2's
from the last two years. My exemptions claimed (married 2)
were the same for both 2010 and 2011. My gross incomes
were within $500 dollars of each other for both years
but my Fed. taxes withheld for 2011 were $1400 higher.
So that kind of debunks the study you cite IMHO. Not
only that but I also owed the Feds an additional $300
that I paid. Sorry!! I am not buying that study. Wait
until the fiscal tidal wave hits around 2014 for
Obama care. As the band Bachman Turner Overdrive titled
one of their songs, "You ain't seen nothing yet" !!
Tom...With the energy you focus on Romney's overseas accounts
do you want to take a guess at how many wealthy Democrats have
them as well??
