Ticket bluebirds for parking in trees?
Editor, Index-Tribune:
What a surprise! Our freedom is being seriously compromised in the city of Sonoma. I came to Sonoma because it is “country,” where I can be with family, friends, children and pets. Now I am told it is a serious offense if I walk to my city square with my well-behaved, leashed dogs? Or if I am a tourist coming to patronize our businesses on a holiday, that I cannot have a picnic in the square with a confined pet or walk around the cool of the square with a dog after a long drive?
Who is coming up with these inhumane and unfriendly policies for our city? I pay taxes and I support our police, but they surely have more important things to do than to ticket dog owners.
Sonoma is a dog- and cat-loving city. Most of our owners are responsible about vaccinating our pets, training them in obedience class and cleaning up after them if necessary. So why is the freedom and enjoyment of the majority restricted? If there are a few repeat offenders, I should think a warning should be sufficient.
I live in America. I regard an anti-dog policy as a serious intrusion on my personal freedom. Maybe next we should ticket the bluebirds for “parking” in the Plaza trees.

I beg to differ. Being a dog lover I realize that 8 out 10 dog owners will pick up any residue left by their pets.
Unfortunately, I have on 2 occasions, picked up the residue on the bottom of my shoe left by that uncaring 20%.
Leave your doggie home or take him/her to the dog park on 1st St. West...this way he/it can visit with his/her buddies.
Obviously service dogs & guide dogs should be allowed.
