Thomas to offer drawing at SVMA

Oct 25, 2012 - 04:12 PM

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art will offer a master class in composite drawing, taught by renowned artist and instructor Larry Thomas. The class takes place Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Composite Drawing focuses on combining several methods of drawing to develop a single image. Students will experiment with and apply various materials as part of the processes learned.

Slow blind contour techniques coupled with quick ink gestures and careful cross-hatched tonal passages with pencil and acrylic color washes are demonstrated and explored.

Everyone will be encouraged to work toward the completion of at least one drawing during the class.

As part of the class, Thomas will lead a walk-through of the museum’s current exhibition of his work, titled, “Larry Thomas: Coastal Echoes.” It will include a Q&A and a discussion of the work on view.

All levels of experience are welcomed, however, some experience with drawing and the materials used will be useful.

There is a limit of 10 participants, so early sign ups are suggested.

The cost is $115 for museum members, $150 for general admission.

Register for this and other programs at www.svma.org/calendar, or call 939-7862.

The museum is located at 551 Broadway in Sonoma.
