Thomas E. Phillips

Thomas E. Phillips of Sonoma, passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Hazel, by his side on July 8, 2012.

Born in Oklahoma in 1930, Tom moved to California with his family at the age of 12, lived for many years in San Francisco, and moved to Sonoma in 1969. A United States Army veteran, Tom served in the Korean War. He retired in 1985, after 23 years as general manager of Western Scooter Distributors, the West Coast distributor of Vespa Motor Scooters in San Francisco.

Tom was a great storyteller, and loved to entertain his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with many wonderful stories. He loved to fish, camp, travel and work in his yard. Tom and Hazel enjoyed many years traveling throughout the United States in their RV. Because of his warm, outgoing personality everyone soon leaned his name and considered him their friend.

Tom is survived by his wife, Hazel, of 38 years; his brothers, Jack and Phil Phillips; his sister, Pat Baker; his children, Bob (Traci) and Wes Phillips, Pat (Dave) Summers, Connie (Ron) McCann and Rob Cherwink; his grandchildren, Bobby, Jason and Tom Phillips, Nicole Dibrell, Todd Summers, Tannia Bollot, Cherie McCann, Amber McCann-Howlett, Tara Bluecloud, Nik and Anya Cherwink; his great-grandchildren, Alicia, Allison, Alyxandria, Bianca, Connor, Jadon, Jenna, Logan, Phoenix, Shelby, Skyler, Taj and Wesley; and his great-great-grandchild, Giovanni.

A private celebration of Tom’s life will be held by family and friends. Donations dedicated to his memory may be made to the charity of choice.
