‘This Week in Politics’ launched on KSVY

Aug 20, 2012 - 03:31 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

In response to Georgia Kelly’s letter to the editor on Aug. 14 (“What’s up at KSVY?”) – in which Ms. Kelly stated that KSVY is “silencing political discourse” – I am happy to report that I am currently hosting a weekly political show on Fridays, from 10 to 11 a.m., entitled, “This Week in Politics With Dr. Ron Willis.” My charge is to provide a forum for citizens of all political persuasions to voice their opinions and discuss issues relevant to our community.

My first guest, on my initial airing last Friday, was Sonoma Mayor Joanne Sanders, who was followed by Tjiska Van Wyk, who coordinates the volunteers who meet and greet guests at Jack London State Park.

For the next four months, my guests will be elected officials and candidates for office at the local, county, state and federal levels, to discuss their plans and visions for improving the quality of life for the citizens of Sonoma and the surrounding communities.

On my background, I am a native Californian and I began my professional life as an ordained Southern Baptist Minister with churches in Oakland, Bangor, Maine and San Antonio, Texas. In 1979, I moved to Washington D.C., to serve as senior staff associate for Congressman Ron Dellums (ret). In 1993, I became the chief lobbyist for the George Washington University. In 2000, my wife and I moved to Sonoma. I hold a BA in philosophy and a master’s and Ed.D. in education and human development.

I would invite Ms. Kelly and her friend Ben Boyce to tune in on Fridays and call in as often as they wish. I think they will enjoy “This Week in Politics With Dr. Ron Willis.”

  Ron Willis
