Third-grade readers

Over the summer months, El Verano Elementary School hosted the district’s Third Grade Reading Academy, aimed at helping all Sonoma Valley third-grade students to become strong readers. The summer academy offered a rich curriculum, coupled with fun activities for the students, including a trip to Readers’ Books. The Sonoma Valley Unified School District has set a strategic goal of having all students reading at grade level by the end of third grade, because reading skills are crucial for academic success in higher grades.
