For his senior project, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity baseball standout Chris Swanson wants to give back to the Valley sports community that gave so much to him these past four diamond-playing years.
So Swanson has organized a Home Run Derby for all ages to “help raise money for improvements and restoration of Arnold Field, and the varsity Dragons’ baseball team,” with his senior project event scheduled for Saturday, March 10, at Arnold Field.
Ages 6-to-12-years-old will attempt to homer out of the infield from noon to 2 p.m.; ages 13-to-18 make their home-run attempts from 2 to 4 p.m.; and the ages 18-to-35 and 35-and-over groups will swing away for the out-of-park fences from 4 to 6 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. (under the lights), respectively.
The costs are $5 for 10 swings (6-to-18-year-olds) and $10 for 10 swings (18-years-old-and-over), with prizes for winners and well-placed balls. There will also be an auction and raffle, with barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs for sale.
