Earlier this month, El Verano Elementary School selected fifth-graders Guadalupe Martinez and Kenthya Martinez as the school’s Students of the Year.
Guadalupe Martinez is described as having been a successful student at El Verano from day one. He is known to be an engaged, helpful, caring and diligent student, supportive of his peers and teachers. He is the student who can be counted on to make a new teacher or a new student feel at home in the classroom. According to the school, Martinez is willing to take on whatever extra work is needed to be successful. He is a member of the school’s book club and helps out in the school library. His daily work assignments go above and beyond and he can be counted on always to go the extra mile with a smile on his face. His teachers describe him as having sunny disposition, a very positive attitude and able to inspire those around him to do their best as well.
Kenthya Martinez is a true El Verano academic success story. She is described by her teachers as being an incredible student who gives her personal best every day. Her family is very supportive of her activities at school. While she is described as being quiet and shy, she is also known to be the student who lights up the room with her smile. She serves as an excellent role model for her peers and her kindness is in evidence every day. Outside of school, Martinez works hard in the community as well. She enjoys volunteer work cleaning Sonoma Creek, installing water boxes and helping others learn about water. Martinez is also skilled at getting others involved and sharing her enthusiasm for her many interests and activities. Her teachers describe her as the student who can be counted on to excel and to share her knowledge with others.
Congratulations to these hard-working and inspiring young students on this honor and to their families and teachers for encouraging their academic and personal success.
This is the seventh in a series that profile each Student of the Year honored in Sonoma.
