Needing one more Sonoma County League win to put themselves in position to claim their second-straight SCL crown, the first-place-tied Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls made quick work of visiting Elsie Allen last night in Pfeiffer Gym.
After honoring their two seniors, Allyson Beckwith and Alexis Long-Am, the Lady Dragons quickly took command of their SCL match with Elsie Allen and went on to register a emphatic 25-12, 25-4, 25-12 triumph.
The Sonoma girls’ runaway victory set themselves up for this Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. title showdown at co-defending champion Petaluma.

A recent stretch of strong overall play, fueled by a productive offense, by the Sonoma varsity soccer boys, which netted them three Sonoma County League wins in their last four matches – the only loss being to first-place Analy on a questionable call – was interupted on the SCL road last night.
Falling behind 1-0 at the half, the visiting Dragons tried to amp up its offense and find the familiar-of-late back of the net, but they were denied by longtime rival Petaluma, which held on for a 1-0 shutout win at Durst Field.
The Dragon boys host SCL foe Elsie Allen in their regular-season finale at 7 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Arnold Field, with Sonoma honoring its 11 seniors before the match.
