Sonoma’s soccer teams get low NCS seeds
Wednesday: boys 3:30 p.m. at Redwood, girls 7 p.m. at Petaluma

After navigating tough Sonoma County League waters and finishing in the middle of the final standings, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity soccer boys’ and girls’ teams managed to land a pair of postseason berths as low-seeds in the North Coast Section Division-1 playoffs, which begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 31.
In the NCS boys’ soccer tournament, the Dragons are the 14th-seed and will play third-seed Redwood at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Larkspur, with the winner facing the victor of sixth-seed Marin Catholic versus 11th-seed Montgomery in the quarterfinals this Saturday, Nov. 3.
Rounding out the NCS Division-1 boys’ 16-team playoff field are top-seed Maria Carrillo, second-seed Tamalpais, fourth-seed Terra Linda, fifth-seed Analy, seventh-seed Rancho Cotate, eighth-seed Casa Grande, ninth-seed San Rafael, 10th-seed Petaluma, 12th-seed Healdsburg, 13th-seed Elsie Allen, 15th-seed Arcata, and 16th-seed Fortuna.
Comprising the Sonoma varsity boys’ team – directed by longtime head coach Pedro Merino and assistant coach Mike Linder – are seniors Daniel Dwyer, Stephan Flynn-García, Fidel García, Connor Grieggs-Demmin, Griffin Hill, Martín Hurtado, Daniel Montes, Pedro Nápoles, Newang Sherpa, Tashi Sherpa and Manuel Young; juniors Andy Chávez, Alejandro Echeverría, Anthony Echeverría, Anthony García, Miguel Guillén, Brian Ruiz and Zack Thompson; and sophomores Sam Bridges-Sonheim and Alexis Zamudio.

In the NCS girls’ soccer tourney, the Lady Dragons are the 11th-seed and will play a 7 p.m. match Wednesday at sixth-seed Petaluma’s Durst Field, with the winner facing third-seed Montgomery in the quarterfinals this Saturday, Nov. 3.

Comprising the Sonoma varsity girls’ soccer team – directed by head coach Julio Leon and assistant coach Colleen Hamilton – are seniors Caroline Knef, Naomi Blinman, Halli Dobson, Riley Ellis-Reis, Selena Gutierrez and Lindsey Jasperse; juniors Ellen Angeloni, Brenna Hamilton, Maria Hawing, Kirsten Hodgson, Kathryn Marioni and Megan Neely; sophomores Alejandra Alvarez, Maddie Dougherty, Raegan Hedley, Shelley Marmaduke, Monica Ramirez, Christen Silkey and Rian Verdu; and freshmen Brigette Vanoni and Mia Vanoni.
