Both Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity soccer boys’ and tennis girls’ teams faced Piner, one of the Sonoma County League’s two newest member-schools, in their SCL openers yesterday and came away with a pair of impressive victories.
In soccer, Piner visited the Valley and were abruptly welcomed at the high school field by the energized and aggressive Dragons, who dominated the match from the outset, tallying two goals in each half to post the 4-0 SCL shutout win.
The tennis Lady Dragons captured three singles matches and added two doubles wins in defeating Piner 5-2 at the high school courts.
In yesterday’s other action for Sonoma, the girl golfers tallied a 318 score in posting a win over SCL foe Piner’s incomplete line-up at the Santa Rosa Country Club, while the volleyball girls fell to nonleague Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa.
