Coming off a close, disappointing loss on their home course, the co-defending Sonoma County League champion Sonoma Valley High School varsity cross country boys hit the SCL road on Wednesday determined to get back on the winning track, while the Sonoma girl runners were seeking a second straight victory.

Both Sonoma teams succeeded in their quest by easily outdistancing SCL foe Healdsburg for a pair of identical 17-44 wins on its 3-mile Hoot Owl Creek course behind boys’ and girls’ race winners seniors Chris Tose and Gianna Biaggi, respectively.

In the boys’ race, the Dragons were led by first-place finishing Tose in 17 minutes, 32 seconds; junior Christian Martinez’s second in 17:34; junior Owen Ljung’s third in 18:02; senior Ryland Osborne’s fourth in 18:41; junior Keegan Ginter’s seventh in 19:14; senior Peter Gray’s eighth in 19:27; and freshman Ty Haury’s ninth in 19:41.

Leading the victorious Lady Dragons were Biaggi’s first-place finish in 21:16; senior Hannah Cenci’s second in 21:25; senior Laura Amador’s third in 21:59; frosh Madeline Libbey’s fourth in 22:45; junior Itzel Macedonio’s seventh in 24:29; senior Serena Spry’s eighth in 26:11; and frosh Brianna Lehane’s ninth in 26:26.

Sonoma’s boys won the junior varsity race behind senior Liam Casey’s first-place finish in 19:53; senior A.J. Lemaire’s second in 19:53; senior Greg Maggioncalda’s eighth in 21:19; junior Trey Garcia’s 11th in 21:51; frosh Pablo Cruz’s 13th in 22:55; sophomore Ian Sloop’s 14th in 23:23; and junior Bailey Zellers’ 16th in 26:08.

The cross country Dragons, coached by John Litzenberg, return to the SCL road for tri-meets against El Molino and host Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa this Wednesday, Oct. 24.
