Every year, during the post-Christmas part of their holiday break, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity wrestlers travel to Reno to compete against the top grapplers from multiple western-state schools in the annual and challenging Sierra Nevada Classic, with the tournament ending today.
Under the direction of Sonoma head coach Kyle Baird and assistant coach Deets Winslow, the Dragons wrestling in Reno include co-captains seniors Aidan Lacy, Giordi Serafini and Sam Denning, and junior Max Schimm; along with seniors Alex Ohan and Jose Vazquez-Fierro; juniors Chris Lohnes and Harris Meglen; and sophomore Jake Randuch.
On the heels of the Reno event, the Dragons wrestlers will open their 2013 Sonoma County League dual-match season against El Molino in Forestville this Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Sonoma’s annual Valley of the Moon Classic is slated for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 4 and 5, in Pfeiffer Gym.
