Sonoma bocce ends fall season

With the ancient, and popular, Italian sport of bocce ball played by more than 200 members in eight Sonoma Bocce Ball Association leagues, a competitive fall session was recently completed and the champions crowned at the bocce courts in Depot Park .

In the Wednesday morning league, the Spaghetti Benders won behind captain Jan McCarthy, co-captain Virginia Ginocchio, Judy Hill, Marilyn Doss, Bob Felder and Louis Chiotti.

Winning the Wednesday evening league was Lupos, comprised of captain Don Orr, co-captain Rosemary Haver, Pat Lindsay, Verna Lantz, Lenor Gordenker, Leona Hayden and Pat Stovall.

The Thursday morning league winner was Siamo Pazzi, consisting of captain Tony Ginocchio, co-captain Barry Walner, Ann Bryan, Don Dutil, Marilyn Edwardes and Margo Ginsburg.

In the Thursday evening league, Pasta Power was the winner behind captain Don Levy, co-captain Gail Calabrese, Russelle Johnson, Joan Di Maggio, Norm Hoglievena, Clara McPherson, Jim Lavaroni and Margo Kosta. 

Winning the Friday morning league was Bocce Oro, comprised of captain Karen Powers, Ken Stieper, Ed Sillari, Pat Marsh, Sylvia Bernard and Chuck Vetrano.

The Friday evening league winner was the High Rollers, consisting of captain Doug Brown, co-captain Peter Charles, Lonnie Greenfield, John Muncy, Merilee Unsworth, Suzanne Young and Lois Dorsey.

In the Saturday morning league, the winner was Son of Be-occe behind captain Mark Lyon, co-captain Lisa Thayer, Sylvia Galindo, Linda Landon, Laurie Sevesta and Richard Waxman.

Winning the Sunday evening league was  

Bocce Torture, comprised of captain Sheila Fanucchi, co-captain Sharon Modrick, Lenor Gordenker, Andy Price, Tony Ginocchio, Harry Hanratty and Mario Bruno.

The Sonoma Bocce Ball Association is currently on a winter break, with the 2013 spring season for the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday leagues starting in April.
