Sonoma FFA fares well at county fair

The Sonoma chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) made a good showing at the Sonoma County Fair’s livestock competition. With everything from Agriculture Mechanics to swine, the students garnered many awards during the three-week fair.

When it came to beef, Marsela Gonzalez got third place Angus; Sabrina Domitri got fourth place Angus and seventh in Novice Showmanship; Haylee DeMartini was awarded Reserve Champion Hereford; Brent Mills and Kyler Fritz each took second place Hereford; Victoria Cooper earned Champion Shorthorn, Supreme Champion Sonoma County Bred and fifth in Novice Showmanship; Hannah Weber earned Champion Black; Suzanne Amaral was awarded second place Black, third place All Other and fourth in Advanced Showmanship while Courtney Mackling got Champion All Other, second Novice Showmanship and seventh Advanced Showmanship.

In the swine category, Toby Kiser came in first in class Hampshire and second in Advanced Sophomore Showmanship; Angie Fulkerson got Reserve Champion Hampshire and second in Novice Showmanship; Crysta Arroyo first in class Yorkshire; Siena Byrd took fifth place in Duroc; Joseph Murphy fourth place Hampshire and fourth in Advanced Junior Showmanship; Ryan Repetto got third place Hampshire; Ally Beckwith second place Yorkshire and fifth in Advanced Junior Showmanship; Haylee DeMartini got fourth place chester and third in Advanced Senior Showmanship; Shauny McVey earned third place Landrace and sixth in Novice Showmanship; Autumn McElroy got fourth place Landrace and third in Novice Showmanship; Siena Byrd seventh place in cross-bred, first in Novice Showmanship; Adalid Hernandez earned fifth place in cross-bred and seventh for Novice Showmanship; Brittany Daly got third place cross-bred; Sabrina Domitri got second place in Dark Cross and third in Advanced Junior Showmanship. The Sonoma FFA took third place overall in Chapter Group.

When it came to sheep, Alexandra Kasper got fourth place Hampshire and eighth in Advanced Showmanship; Shelby Gray got both seventh and ninth place in Hampshire; Katylene Kraft took sixth place in Hampshire; Sydney Claderwood got ninth place Hampshire and fifth place cross-bred; Cynthia Camino got first place in Hampshire; Marsela Gonzalez was fifth place in Hampshire; Alexia Carillo got third place in Natural Color and third in Novice Showmanship. The Sonoma FFA also took third place overall chapter group sheep

In the boer goats category, Lalo Magana got fourth place boer goat and fifth in Novice Showmanship; Skyler Marcial got third place boer goat and ninth in Novice Showmanship; and Alexandra Kasper got fifth place boer goat and eighth in Novice Showmanship. The Sonoma FFA also got third place overall chapter group

In the Agriculture Mechanics division, Charlie Stellon was named an outstanding ag mechanics exhibitor. Russell Alonzo took first place in barbecue; Kris Feminia took first place in mini bikes; Aaron Micklus, Blayke Petersen, Ricardo Magana and Dustin Barbane took first place in the fire pit competition. Other first and second place exhibitors included Chris Dias, Brian Evans, Eric Clouse, Garret Walker and Joseph Murphy.

The Sonoma FFA earned first place for its Chapter Garden.
