In a pair of challenging Sonoma County League openers against a longtime SCL rival, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity soccer boys’ and girls’ teams turned in solid efforts, but were denied by Analy in home and road matches, respectively, earlier this week.

The Lady Dragons – who host SCL foe Healdsburg at 4 p.m. today on the new Hanna Boys Center field – faced Analy in Sebastopol Wednesday night and couldn’t find the net in a 2-0 loss.

Battling defending SCL champion Analy at their home high school field on Tuesday, the Dragon boys were trailing 1-0 early in the second half when they finally capitalized on a series of offensive runs when sophomore Alexis Zamudio lasered a shot into the net for the equalizing goal and a burst of momentum.

But Sonoma couldn’t cash in on a few highly potential scoring chances and, with less than two minutes left in regulation play, the visiting Tigers struck for the decisive goal and escaped the Valley with a 2-1 SCL-opening win.

The Dragon boys, who played at league foe Healdsburg yesterday – results not available at presstime – remain on the SCL road when they travel to Forestville to face El Molino this Tuesday, Sept. 18.
