Sawyer will be terrific supervisor
In the final weeks of a campaign, the rhetoric often turns divisive and vitriolic, but it is astonishing to see the level at which business and agriculture have become targets in the current supervisorial race. Susan Gorin seems to cast the local wine industry as a force of evil that must be contained and a recent correspondent on these pages characterized John Sawyer’s business and ag contributors as “brass-knuckled bottom-liners.”
Really?
Shall we prepare for angry mobs with torches and pitch forks outside the Red Grape, Kunde Winery or Mulas Dairy?
Our hotels, wineries, restaurants, retailers and other businesses support the vast majority of jobs in our local economy, as well as the public services that help maintain our wonderful quality of life in this Valley.
Should a candidate portray themselves as “balanced” at the same time they are demonizing the economic underpinnings of our community? John Sawyer is the candidate who truly understands the balance between business, agriculture and the preservation of our spectacular local environment. He is going to be a terrific supervisor for all of us.
