The eighth annual Flowery Elementary Jog-A-Thon wrapped up a successful run on Thursday, March 8, at the school’s track field. More than 380 students laced up their running shoes and ran more than 4,700 laps, 700 laps more than the 2011 event. This year, students were given a goal to raise 25 percent more in donations than the previous year, which was just shy of $10,000, and organizers believe students exceeded that figure. The Flowery Jog-A-Thon provides a forum for students to participate in the school’s year-long efforts to combat childhood obesity through fitness, as well as to raise money to support the fifth grade Mendocino Outdoor Education program. This year, DJ Refugio was at the track to add to the rhythm of the day, along with local zumba instructor, Laura Drinkhall, who led the Flowery students and staff in a pre-run warm up dance routine.
