Ronald Ray Harrah

April 6, 1947-Oct. 27, 2012

Ronald was one of two sons born to Frederick and Fern Harrah at Hamilton Air Force Base on April 6, 1947. Ron spent his childhood in Sonoma. He played sports such as baseball, football and he ran track. He attended Sonoma Valley High School and graduated in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam with Company B 2/327 Infantry 101st Airborne Division.

Upon discharge from the Army, Ron joined the Laborer’s Union Local 291 and worked for Ghilotti Brothers Construction from 1970 until he retired in 2008.

Ron was active in the community of Sonoma Valley. He was a longtime member or the Devil’s Darlins car club where he served numerous positions. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy for some time and learned to make a mean pasta sauce there. He enjoyed fishing, flying remote control planes, working on his car, mowing his lawn and burning rubber on the streets of Sonoma.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Valerie Harrah; his beloved children, Veronica Harrah, Frank Harrah and Tina Dunham; his twin brother, Donald Harrah; his mother-in-law, Gina Bernabovi. Ronald also left behind his sister-in-law, Lisa Del Fava and her husband, Scott Del Fava; his daughter-in-law, Sara Harrah; and his son’s partner, Kerissa Toovey. Ronald will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Noah Cole, Kylie Cole, Bradley Dunham, O‘Brien Simmons, Tyson Simmons; and nephews, Brennan DeGeorgis, Tony Harrah; and niece, Dawn Harrah. Ron also leaves behind numerous cousins and his Aunt Velma Harrah.

Friends are invited to attend funeral service at Duggan’s Mission Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. A private interment will take place at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. Ron once said “If you did not send flowers while I was alive, don’t bring them to me when I am dead.” So, in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to The Wounded Warrior Project in Ron’s Memory.

I didn't know Ron, Lynne, but I have lost a brother. I wish you the courage to find his love in every moment from now until you see him again.

Warmest regards,

I'm so sorry to hear of Ron's passing; another precious 1965 classmate leaving us.

I've known Ron since I was in the 7th grade, with him and his brother, Don. When two schools merged their 7th And 8th classes in the 60s; I had the delightful chance to meet these two lively guys.

I know this is late, but I want to thank Ron for serving our country and returning safely and out of harms way.

My condolences to Valerie and his family.

May you rest in peace, my friend.
