Richard Joseph Milani passed away peacefully on June 14, 2012, in Yuba City, where he recently moved to be near his daughter and grandson.
Richard was born in San Francisco on July 11, 1932. He moved to Oakland, as a young man with his family, where he worked as a butcher in his father’s business. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War as a crew chief on a transport plane. He was a middleweight boxer in the service and later took up body building. Richard eventually began a career with Pacific Bell Telephone Company, married and moved to Sonoma where he lived on and off for the remainder of his life. Richard enjoyed cooking, body building, dancing, jazz music and morning coffee with his friends.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, Victor and Felicita; and his brother, Jerome. He is survived by his daughter, Christy Sue; grandson, Justin; son, Joe Milani; sister, Marilyn Kern; and dear friend and ex-wife, Sofi.
A private memorial service will be held for Richard in Sonoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/.
