Richard Dale Janes
Richard Dale Janes of Yountville, died on June 8, 2012, in Napa.
He was born to Lyle and Marjorie Janes in Des Moines, Iowa, on Aug. 7, 1931. He and his family moved to San Diego, where “Dick,” as he was known to his friends and family, worked at Piggly Wiggly until his graduation from high school. He joined the Marine Corps after graduation and was deployed to Korea during the Korean Conflict. When he returned home, he married his first wife, and they had three children. Dick then started a dairy delivery business with his father. They sold the business a few years later and moved to Napa, and started working with “System 99” driving a truck. Driving must have been in his blood because he loved this job.
Years later, Dick moved to the Veterans Home in Yountville were he meet and married Betty. They started their life together moving to Sonoma. In Sonoma, he started “Janes Trucking” and did that until his retirement in 1997.
Richard loved life and enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Jo Ellen. He is survived by his wife, Betty; by his children, Michael (Diane) Janes and Larry Janes, both of Oregon, and Kathy (Phillip) Rhead, of Washington. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Kammermann; and by his brother, Robert Janes. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and numerous good friends.
Friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Duggan’s Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa Str., Sonoma, CA 95476.
