Raymond Warren Friedrich

  Raymond Warren Friedrich died at his home in Sonoma on May 26, 2012. He was 86.

  He was born in 1926, in Hastings, Neb., to Lydia Brungardt Friedrich and Herman W. Friedrich. He was the sixth of seven children. At age 17, in the middle of World War II, he joined the United States Navy and served four years in the South Pacific on a fuel supply ship, the USS Escambia, refueling ships at sea.

  After the war Raymond returned to Nebraska and married Georgie Lee Young. They had three children.

  Raymond worked for a construction company, building dams in South Dakota, Arabia and Columbia, leaving the family behind, which soon became unbearable.

  They then moved to San Francisco, where Ray worked as a maintenance contractor on the Golden Gate Bridge for the next 29 years, retiring in 1984.

  Raymond was a member of the Lutheran Church and a Moose Lodge member since 1987.

  He is survived by his children, Douglas, Janet and Joyce; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his longtime, loving partner, Tina Horton.

  Interment will be at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620, on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at 11:30 a.m.
