Raceway will host 50 days of drag racing

NHRA drag series returns; 2013 tickets on sale

Another 50 days of drag-racing action, arriving in January, and ending in November, will light up the Valley’s world-famous drag strip at Sonoma Raceway during its coming 2013 Big O Tires racing season.

Highlighted by the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and its featured 26th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals weekend from July 26 through 28, Sonoma Raceway will also host two annual programs for drag racing fans: the STP Summit ET Bracket Drag Racing Series, and the popular STP Wednesday Night Drags.

The STP Summit ET Bracket Drag Racing Series season begins on Saturday, Jan. 5, while the STP Wednesday Night Drags program, which enters its 25th season in 2013, runs from March 13 to Nov. 13, and includes the “Top the Cops” program running from April through August.

Preceding the NHRA Sonoma Nationals weekend, which features racing in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle, the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races, presented by Korbel and including the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, will take place at Sonoma Raceway the weekend of July 19 to 21.

Also highlighting Sonoma Raceway’s 2013 Big O Tires major events season, along with the NHRA events, will be the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival on May 18 and 19; the 25th annual Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, which is the Valley raceway’s largest attended motorsports weekend, from June 21 through 23; the GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma weekend on Aug. 23 through 25; the second-annual FIA World Touring Car event on Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8; and the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6.
