Presenting Dragon 2013 Hall of Fame
Last year, Sonoma Valley High School’s “Dragon Hall of Fame” committee changed the format from its first four years of honoring former outstanding individual Dragon athletes to an event recognizing Sonoma’s championship teams from “the Edsall years.”
Clarence “Ed” Edsall was the late Sonoma coach and athletic director in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, and in his honor 20 former Sonoma teams and approximately 180 players were inducted into the 2012 Dragon Hall of Fame.
For 2013’s sixth annual event, the Dragon Hall of Fame committee will honor one coach and one business with special awards, as well as seven individual athletes and one team for winning back-to-back titles.
The Dragon Hall of Fame takes place Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Hanna Boys Center.
Sonoma’s 2013 Hall of Fame class will include former coach Pam Adams accepting the D.A. Pfeiffer Coaches Award, and Broadway Market receiving the Mulas Family Recognition Award.
This award, named for the late Schellville fire chief and dairy farmer, Mitch Mulas, and his family, honors people, families or businesses who have contributed time and/or resources to ensure that Valley’s students, athletes and coaches have the additional support necessary to have successful seasons and experiences.
The 2013 Dragon Hall of Fame athletic individual inductees are Jim Sweet for the 1950s; Bruce Bromley and Bill Marioni for the 1960s; Kevin Woods for the 1970s; Marnett Smalley and Brad Svennungsen for the 1980s; and Dan Littlefield for the 1990s.
Sonoma’s girls’ cross country championship teams for the 1978 and ’79 seasons being inducted include team-members Suzie Gitti, Cathy Bettencourt, Jennifer Secrist, Jane Fonseca, Kari Anderson, Paula Forrest, Julie Davidson, Connie Snyder, Jamie Pickering, Dolores Fernandez, Cindy Chambers, Cindy Archer, Katie Juffman, Lori Norlock, Kori Schake, Pam Masten, Joanne Morovich, Cheri Bauer, Julie Hirsh, Jeanne Martin, Macial Felton, Val Haase, Mary Ann Weber, Eve Decker, Patricia Gallagher, Karen Dimick, Madeline Potter, Jane Masten, Eve Eshelman, Gae Eshelman, Lisa Ross and Tami Chambers.
