Pet’s Lifeline’s Bark in the Park and Pooch Promenade will be coming to the Sonoma Plaza on Saturday, July 28, to allow Valley pooches and their human partners the rare opportunity to occupy the normally off-limits-to-canines public square.
Members of the public are invited to join Pets Lifeline in its 30th anniversary celebration, promenading around the historic Plaza and participating in whimsical, fun and silly dog contests in front of City Hall.
The promenade starts at 9 a.m. at Depot Park, where people and pooches can parade their way down to and around the Plaza to the contests in front of City Hall, where celebrity judges will be waiting, including Ben Flajnik of ABC’s “The Bachelor.”
Contests include the human and dog look-alike contest, waggiest tail contest, shaggiest dog contest, best pooch smooch, best doggie do and the costume contest.
There will be pools, watering bowls, treats and misting stations along the promenade route if it’s a hot morning. After the contest, the dogs and owners will head back to Depot Park for a bounty of festivities with music, wine, food and games for all ages.
All dogs must be registered for the promenade but participants are not required to enter the contest. Advance registration to the promenade is requested by going to www.petslifeline.org or by calling 996-4577, ext. 103.
There will also be a pre-registration the day before the event at Pets Lifeline. The day of the event, registration starts at 7 a.m. at Depot Park parking lot.
