VICKI WHITING, president of the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley, and Toni Castrone, executive director of Sonoma Community Center, are preparing for “Applause Sonoma” on Aug. 25.

Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley will bring a stellar and eclectic local entertainers to perform at its “Applause Sonoma” summer fundraiser, to be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at the new event complex at Hanna Boys Center.

“We have tremendously talented entertainers in this Valley, and we are thrilled that so many of them will be performing at ‘Applause Sonoma.’  This event is going to be one that people won’t forget,” said Vicki Whiting, president of Rotary Club.

Special performances will include the casts of “Defying Gravity,” the Star eQuality Players of “A Chorus Line,” local productions of “Grease” and “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” plus Silver Moon Kids Theatre and Murphy’s Mellow-Drama Players. Additionally there will be pop-up performances by Sheila Whitney, Jill Waggoner, singers of Vox Populi and comedic actor Maxime Simonet.

This evening of fun, food and entertainment will benefit the whole community – especially the Andrews Hall renovation project. Rotary has issued a $100,000 Matching Community Challenge Grant to transform Sonoma Community Center’s Andrews Hall into a true performing arts facility.

The centerpiece of the evening is a five-course Mediterranean feast served family-style at each table, with fine wine and beer coupled with silent and live auctions and dancing well into the night to the music of BackTrax.

Funds raised will also go to support Rotary’s Sonoma Valley Youth Scholarships as well as its extensive community-oriented Rotary projects and grants, which have benefited the Sonoma Ecology Center, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, Valley of the Moon Teen Services, Mentoring Alliance of Sonoma Valley and the Culinary Arts Program at Sonoma Valley High School.

Ticket price is $120 and includes hors d’oeuvres and dinner, wine and beer, a live and silent auction and dancing. Tickets can be purchased at sonomacommunitycenter.org or by calling 938-4626, ext. 1.
