One-way Riverside not well thought out
Editor, Index-Tribune:
After reading about converting Riverside Drive to one way (“Changing Riverside Drive” Index-Tribune, Sept. 7), a big concern for us is that those small and narrow streets of Craig, Baxter, Lucas and Comstock will be overrun with drivers who will inevitably use those streets and not go to Railroad Avenue.
Has their been a formal survey done by any independent group of all the Springs’ residents, and not just those on Riverside? Many were unaware of this until the newspaper story. Additionally, Riverside Drive is used by many Sonoma residents trying to avoid that gridlock on Highway 12 through the Springs. That brings more traffic impact.
Safety is not an issue limited to Riverside Drive. All of the streets of the Springs are heavily used by the residents for walking and bike riding. Turning Riverside Drive into a one-way street may have the opposite effect of that intended, by causing increased burden to all the Spring’s streets.
We are not sure this idea has been well thought out to the extent of all those who will be impacted.

What this really boils down to is some wealthy bored woman does not like the traffic that drives down Riverside instead of the bottleneck on Hiway 12. I for one don't want to have to drive an extra mile just to park in my own driveway. Which I have a very hard time doing coming from the north end. If the people walking down Riverside to get their kids to and from school were really that upset or frightened of the traffic they could use the little side streets just as easy. I do when I ride my bike or take a walk. I just do not think a 100 people with no real time to process what they were told should make a decision that affects me in a bad way.
