Observatory to offer Star Party for Perseids
The Robert Ferguson Observatory, located in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, will offer special daytime and nighttime viewings on the weekend of Saturday, Aug. 11, and Sunday, Aug. 12.
On Saturday, visitors are invited to a solar viewing, from noon to 4 p.m. Solar telescopes will be set up for a safe viewing of this big, bright star.
On Saturday and Sunday nights, the Robert Ferguson Observatory will play host to a Star Party, taking place at 9 p.m. The observatory’s three main telescopes will be open, and docents will be available to answer questions and provide information as visitors enjoy the Perseid meteor shower.
Daytime solar observing is free, and the Star Party is $3 for adults. Visitors under 18 are admitted for free. There is also a fee of $8 to park at the observatory, money that benefits Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.
