Moldovan Academy Preschool cast 50 children, ages 2 through 5, in its second school play, “The Little Snowflake,” by Steve Metzger, which was performed on the stage at the Presentation School last week in front of an audience of hundreds. The children were involved in every aspect of the play, from set and costume design to rehearsal and final production. According to director Kathleen Moldovan, all the participants took great pride in creating their costumes and rehearsing their lines, songs and learning their marks and cues. “The final production was a night of pure bliss for the young actors and a night of pride and joy for the families and teachers. The entire production from beginning to end came with many opportunities to learn valuable lessons,” she said. “My counterparts in early childhood education scoffed at the idea, but what we found is that even the youngest participant was rewarded with self-confidence and pride in their performance.” Moldovan Academy’s HighScope curriculum (highscope.org) emphasizes the arts as a means of cultivating and developing academic and social skills.
