Mission Riders set to depart Sonoma

  There is a wonderful event about to be enacted, as it were, in our city of Sonoma.

  It is called, the California Mission Riders.

  Planned at least two years ago by a group of writers and cinematographers and open to horseback riders, it is a ride that is to begin at our Mission San Francisco de Solano and travel on horseback to all 21 missions.

  Riders will be camping over-night, filming each place and ultimately marking their own place in our history.

  The end result will also be a treasured gift to the California school system.

  A reception will be held for the riders at the Blue Wing Inn on Aug. 18 and, hopefully, the riders will get a send-off from the Sonoma/Petaluma State Historic Park docents at the Sonoma Barracks on Sunday, Aug. 19, when they begin their historic journey.

  Coffee and doughnuts will be plentiful.
