Mick, Mike send final play – thank supporters

Open field

Dec 10, 2012 - 01:50 PM

With last month’s ending to Sonoma Valley High School’s 2012 football campaign came both the regular- and post-season farewell games for varsity head coach Mick O’Meara and defensive coordinator Mike Mulas.

In 29 seasons coaching Sonoma together, O’Meara and Mulas directed the varsity Dragon gridders to a 174-135-6 overall record, which included eight Sonoma County League titles (five outright, three tied), with 18 postseason North Coast Section appearances and an NCS second-place banner (1990).

Before their final Sonoma regular-season and home game at Arnold Field against longtime SCL rival Petaluma, Mick and Mike were honored by SVHS and the City of Sonoma for their three decades of coaching and teaching with integrity, care for their student-athletes, and the privelege of being an intergal part of their favorite sport.

So, in response to being acknowledged and honored for their coaching careers, Mick and Mike put together the below list of those they wish to thank for years and years of support for their Sonoma football program.

“Sonoma Valley High School Boosters; Ron Rodgers, Broadway Market; Dan Eraldi, Eraldi's Menswear and Shoes; Ron Hodges, Basque Boulangerie; Vince Albano, Mary's Pizza Shack; Steve Page, Infineon Raceway (Sonoma Raceway); Steven Serafini, Bill Lynch, Bill Hoban and the Index-Tribune family; Mitch and Nilda Mulas and family; the Sangiacomo family; Sonoma Market; Mike and Denise Mulas; Ray Mulas and Griff Holocek, our filmers; longtime director Vickie Mulas, current director Pam Luce, and all the past and present cheerleaders.

“Dr. Robert Geiger, Dr. John Schafer and all the EMTs who volunteered their time; John Holden and Mike Gilman and our past medical support staff; Mike and Steve Sangiacomo, along with Ray Sullivan, Jr., for years of volunteering.

“The countless people, past and present, who helped our program along the way: the statisticians, chain crew, announcers, clock operators and administrators; Bill Hammett, the Sun newspaper and the SUN-TV station for covering our games; the individuals who lined the fields, constructed the press box, the scoreboards, the field prep and the concession stands at Arnold Field. The families who were instrumental in supporting our players for our banquets and the after-game pizza for players.

“And a special thanks to all the coaches and players, both past and present, who made our program a success, and especially all our families for supporting us along the way.

“At last, we wish to thank the community at large for all its support for nearly three decades of Dragon football,” said Mick and Mike.

Ciao!
