Luncheon to mark Year of the Snake

Feb 21, 2013 - 04:08 PM

This Sunday, Feb. 24, the Penglai, China Committee of Sonoma Sister Cities Association will gather at Lily Kai restaurant in Petaluma at noon to celebrate the Year of the Snake with members of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and other special guests.

A 10-course banquet will be served in celebration of the New Year, each course carefully chosen by the Penglai Committee to symbolize a different and revered value of the Chinese people.

Tickets are $30 and a limited number are available at SVBO.org.

Like Sonoma, Penglai is a region known for producing quality wine grapes, and the regions continue to share cultural exchange. Sonomans visited Penglai in 2011, and periodically officials from Penglai visit Sonoma. Another delegation from Penglai will likely visit Sonoma later this year.

Sonoma Sister Cities Association is affiliated with Sister Cities International. The mission of the Sister Cities International organization is to create relationships based on the trade of culture, information, and education, creating lifelong friendships that inspire prosperity and peace through individual citizen diplomacy.
