Local teacher attends NYC ‘summer camp’

Aug 21, 2012 - 10:10 AM

Presentation School sixth-grade teacher Joel Kuschner attended the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy, a week-long professional development program that focuses on new ways to engage students in math and science. The academy was co-founded by PGA legend Phil Mickelson, shown above left, with Kuschner.

Kuschner was selected from more than 1,000 nominated teachers, at sendmyteacher.com, to join 200 others from around the country at the all-expense paid “summer camp for teachers” held at Liberty Science Center outside New York City.

In addition to hands-on experiments and sharing best practices with fellow attendees, Kuschner participated in a math and science quiz bowl hosted by Mickelson. During the quiz bowl, teachers answered questions about the academy curriculum, and showed off their new knowledge to the Mickelsons.
