Last chance to see Dakaboom in Kenwood

Dec 27, 2012 - 05:27 PM

For the fourth year, the eclectic duo Dakaboom returns to the Kenwood Depot for an evening of music and comedy on Friday, Dec. 28, at 8 p.m.

Known locally for bringing joy to the North Bay for over a decade, Maria Carrillo High School alums – Kenwood-local Ben McLain and Cleveland transplant Paul Peglar – have been sharing music and comedy together as long as they've been best friends – a total of 13 years.

The annual show fills up the historic Kenwood Depot every year continues to bring their friends and family to experience the joy of what has become a holiday tradition.

Last year, Dakaboom celebrated the release of their debut album "Get Awesome;” this year will be a similar landmark as they pre-release their upcoming live DVD for just these performances.

In attendance last year was local celebrity Tommy Smothers who offered these words: “I heard there were two local guys in town doing songs and comedy so I thought I'd take a look … they took my breath away ... with their music, comedy and showmanship … Two voices in perfect harmony, and with joyful abandon and humor, they take you on a magical, musical, modern day vaudeville tour. Ben McLain and Paul Peglar are headed for stardom. They are unique, they are original. Don't miss them ’cause you're in for a treat.”

Set for 2013, Dakaboom is hosting the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival at USC, then embarks on an extended, nationwide college tour playing for more than 75 schools around the country.

Along their travels, they often spend the days performing and doing workshops at high school music departments to help inspire young artists like they once were under the direction of MCHS's Gail Bowers, winner of the 2012 Norcal Band and Choral Directors Association's Music Director of the Year award.

Tickets are $15 at the door and sell out quickly. Advance tickets can be purchased by contacting sarahphillips2000@yahoo.com or 537-6685.
