Lady spikers level Analy, golfers club Petaluma behind Dagner

Tigers top Sonoma tennis girls

In a rematch of defending Sonoma County League co-champions Tuesday night in Sebastopol, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity volleyball girls swept past Analy by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 26-24 to remain in an SCL first-place tie with Petaluma as of presstime.

Leading the Lady Dragons were sophomore Anastasia Claros’ 26 digs, sophomore Delaney Swanson’s 19 kills, sophomore Ciara Smith’s four solo blocks, and sophomore Mackenzie Albrecht’s three serving aces.

The Sonoma spikers, who hosted SCL second-place tied Healdsburg last night – results not available at presstime – will compete in the Hoover High Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 13, before traveling to Santa Rosa this Tuesday, Oct. 16, to face league foe Piner.

Finishing their regular SCL season on a high note, the Sonoma girl golfers, directed by longtime coach Tom Hickerson, defeated Petaluma 303-329 at the Sonoma Golf Club on Tuesday behind another medalist performance by senior Jordann Dagner.

Dagner led the Lady Dragons with a nine-hole, low-round score of 49, followed by teammates senior Allison Cogbill’s 57, junior Jacquie Peterson’s 61, freshman Callie Hogan’s 65, and senior Barbara Hodgkinson’s 73.

Sonoma now heads into the SCL championship tournament, which takes place this Monday, Oct. 15, at the Oakmont Golf Club’s East Course in Santa Rosa, alone in third-place with a standout 8-4 record.

Sonoma’s tennis girls again split their singles matches, but were swept in doubles and ended up dropping a 5-2 SCL decision to Analy Tuesday afternoon at the high school courts, which saw their third-place record dip to 5-4 with three matches left in the season.

The Lady Dragon winners were junior Stephanie Brett, who defeated Becca Graff 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles; and junior Michelle Stovall, who beat Natalie Ambrosio 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

Sustaining Sonoma’s losses were senior Anna Robles’ 1-6, 0-6 to Amanda Broffman at No. 1 singles; sophomore Cecilia Montano’s 3-6, 3-6 to Caroline Schlutius at No. 2 singles; seniors Francesca Stornaiuolo and Lindsey Slack’s 5-7, 1-6 to Paulina Cradeur and Gina Hervey at No. 1 doubles; seniors Regina Mellinger and Raquel Rios-Gomez’s 1-6, 0-6 to Kate Stewart and Alya Bohr at No. 2 doubles; and sophomore Annie Morgan and junior Ava Gonzales’ 6-7 (5-7), 4-6 to Renee Bianchi and Hillary Brennan at No. 3 doubles.

The Lady Dragon netters, who played Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa yesterday – results not available at presstime – will host Healdsburg at 3:30 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the high school courts.
