With two big goals accomplished, there’s a bigger goal to attain still looming on the horizon, and the Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls are ready to take the first step in their attempt to make it a reality.
The first two goals for the Lady Dragons were to win their second straight Sonoma County League title … a “yes” check … then claim the SCL Tournament crown … another “yes” check … and now the big prize, and an immensely challenging one, is capturing the North Coast Section championship.
After receiving an NCS opening-round bye as a league champion and the fourth-seed for the postseason playoffs, the young Sonoma spikers, with only two seniors on the roster, are set to begin their tri-title quest.
The fourth-seeded Lady Dragons (27-7 record) will host fifth-seeded Novato (24-10) in an NCS Division-3 quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 10, in Pfeiffer Gym.
Tomorrow night’s quarter final winner between Sonoma and the Lady Hornets advances to a sectional semifinal showdown with the victor of top-seed Campolindo (24-4) versus eighth-seed Sir Francis Drake (18-15).
Rounding out the NCS Division-3 matchups for Saturday’s quarterfinals, second-seed Bishop O’Dowd plays seventh-seed Analy (17-10), and third-seed Albany (33-5) faces sixth-seed Petaluma (18-12).
The sectional semifinals will be held Wednesday evening, Nov. 14, at the highest seed’s court, and the title match takes place Saturday night, Nov. 17.
