Starting the second and final round of their 12-game Sonoma County League season, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls will host Healdsburg in a key SCL showdown tomorrow night, Saturday, Jan. 28, in Pfeiffer Gym, with the junior varsity playing at 6, and the varsity tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Dragons (9-11 overall, 3-3 SCL), who were originally going to host tonight before a recent scheduling change, have won three straight after dropping their first three league games, including their heartbreaking SCL-opening loss at Healdsburg.
Magnifying the need for a win over the Greyhounds is the fact that the Sonoma girl cagers have to host SCL first-place Casa Grande, who is unbeaten in league and with only one loss on the season, this Monday evening, Jan. 30, in Pfeiffer Gym – the freshmen start at 4:30, the jayvees begin at 6, and the varsity plays at 7:30 p.m.
With Casa on course to claiming the SCL crown and the league’s postseason tournament’s top-seed, the Lady Dragons are in a battle with five other teams for one of the remaining three seeds for the tourney.
