La Salette, Heffernan atop men’s Jack Benny hoops

With a third of the Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League’s 15-game 2012-13 regular season in the books, undefeated La Salette and once-beaten Heffernan Insurance Brokers top the standings entering the holiday break.

First-place La Salette has a 5-0 record, followed by two-time defending champion Heffernan’s second-place 4-1 mark, Patt’s Copy World’s 3-2, Murphy’s Irish Pub’s 2-3, R&B Custom Builders’ 1-4, and Cary’s Sports Bar and Grill at 0-5.

In Sunday night’s, Dec. 16, hoops action at the Altimira Middle School gym, Heffernan Insurance Brokers defeated R&B Custom Builders 59-40, led by Clem Moore’s game-high 17 points, Jerome Baker’s 13 with three treys, Kevin Jaggie’s 12, Pete Ahern and Steve Matuszak’s six each and Devin Ajax’s five. R&B was paced by Al Martinson’s 13 points, Craig Brown’s eight, Larry Philpot’s seven, Danny Dwyer’s six, Gary MacKinnon’s four and Ron Hall’s two.

Murphy’s Irish Pub beat Cary’s Sports Bar and Grill 52-40, led by Jeff Kellogg’s game-high-tying 16 points with four treys, Jamie Svanda’s 10, Eric Jorgensen’s nine, Beni Comma’s eight, Steve Mellinger’s four, Rich Tunheim’s three and John Malinkowski’s two. Pacing Cary’s were Chris Rossi’s game-high-tying 16 points, Gary Johnson’s and Ryan McCracken’s 10 apiece, and Joe Kirkwood’s four.

La Salette won on a forfeit by Patt’s Copy World.
