Joan Loraine (Sullivan) Brady

  Joan Loraine (Sullivan) Brady (72) of Sonoma passed away April 27, 2012, at home in Sonoma after her three-year heroic battle with cancer.

  Joan was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Caldwell, Idaho, to Samuel Arlo and Wanda Loraine Sullivan and shortly relocated to Vallejo, until moving to Sonoma in 1951. She graduated Sonoma Valley High School in 1957.

  She was a stenographer for the FBI in San Francisco prior to her marriage to Darien James Clauson.

  In 1968, she received her AA in dental assisting and continued on to the dental profession as dental assistant and office manager for several group practices for more than 40 years. She was a computer specialist for Dentomatics, a dental software company and was their trainer and national representative for three years. This led to her position with Dr. Dumars (orthodontist) in Napa for more than 20 years and created wonderful friendships with many of the team she worked with. She married Larry Clair Brady in Jan. 8, 1989, after being a dedicated single mother for 23 years. She was active as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was active in the Ham radio group. She earned her private pilot’s license in the 1970s. She and Larry enjoyed traveling, crafts and spending time with their children and grandchildren. They were also active in country western dancing.

  She is survived by her husband, Larry Brady; and her daughter, Tamara L. Campion (Doug), grandchildren, Tracey, Blaine and Laura, of Lodi; daughter, Tanda L. Clauson, grandchildren, Davion, Cameron and Jamie, of Mountain House; son, Timothy D. Clauson, (Charlotte), grandchildren, Mattie, Caitlin, Hannah, Rebecca and Skyler, of Roseburg, Ore.; stepdaughter, Colleen R. Steffen, (Greg), grandchildren, Shannon, Hunter, Emily and Grant, of Sandy, Utah; stepson, Quinn A. Brady (Heather), granddaughter, Kyra of Petaluma.

A memorial of Joan's life will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Sonoma Ballroom at The Lodge at Sonoma, 1325 Broadway, Sonoma, with the reception immediately following at Sassarini School multi-purpose room. Please join us for refreshments and to comfort and encourage one another.
