The nonprofit Sonoma Valley Jazz Society is resurrecting the Teen Jazz Camp at Hanna Boys Center, running from July 30 to Aug. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. The camp was previously funded by money raised during Sonoma Jazz Plus, but the Jazz Society stepped in to fill the funding gap and keep the musical camp alive.

“So this year the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society has stepped up to the plate and is funding the entire camp this year through donations and student fees. Each year the camp served the Sonoma aspiring jazz artists with great one on one instruction along with band group dynamics,” said Janice King, president of the Jazz Society. “At the end of each camp the students put on a concert it is always amazing so hear the great jazz standards they have learned and to see many students take leads and improve - truly awe inspiring. Many past students have gone on to become professional jazz musicians and to further their training in university music programs.”

At Sonoma Jazz Camp campers will dive into basics along with advanced jazz repertoire. Instructors include Andrew Emer on bass, Jake Barrett on piano, Isaac Carter on guitar, J. Kevin Durkin on vocals, Alex Aspinall on drums and Roger Glen on sax.

The two-week camp costs $300. Sign up by calling 373-0700 or visit sonomavalleyjazzsociety.org.
