James M. Woods, of Alexandria, Va., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, of a heart attack while at his home.

Born May 25, 1956, in San Francisco, to Bill and Betty Woods, Jim was raised in Sonoma, graduating from Sonoma Valley High School in 1974. Jim was an excellent student, receiving many awards for his intellect and athleticism. In 2011, Jim was inducted into Sonoma Valley High School’s Dragon Hall of Fame as an outstanding athlete.

Jim was the principal at James M. Woods Consulting LLC, specializing in real estate development, commercial and healthcare real estate and facility operations in the New York area.   Jim was a consultant to the Ulster County Development Corporation in New York, Kingston Hospital and St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers. Jim was also proud of his initial work on the conceptual development of a proposed new hospital for New York City’s west village.

While vice president for facilities, real estate and business development at West Penn Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh, Penn., Jim directed new business development efforts, and the execution of many joint venture, sale and acquisition transactions.

Jim’s most recent endeavor was as a consultant to the Children’s National Medical Center advising the senior leadership team.

Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother and uncle and an amazing friend to many – all with whom he shared his love, amazing knowledge, and his thoughtful observations on life.
