Infineon Raceway inviting fans for free IndyCar test session this Saturday

Ticket packages for Infineon’s 2012 major events on sale

In anticipation for Infineon Raceway’s 2012 Big O Tires racing season – featuring seven major-event weekends, highlighted by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, IZOD IndyCar Series and AMA Pro Road Racing – motorsports fans get the chance for a special IndyCar preview.

The all-new 2012 IndyCar race car will make its Sonoma debut as Infineon invites racing fans to a free-of-charge preview of four IZOD IndyCar Series teams hitting the Valley raceway for a test session, weather permitting, this Saturday, Feb. 25 – a closed test session will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26.

Saturday’s free test session runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and race fans will be allowed to watch from Infineon’s main grandstand, roam the paddock area and attend a driver press conference at noon (space permitting).

Teams and drivers scheduled to attend the test include veteran Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello and EJ Viso (KV Racing Technology), Sausalito’s JR Hildebrand (Panther Racing), Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport), and Will Power and Ryan Briscoe (Team Penske).

The Raceway Café will also be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast and lunch, and Infineon plans to hold an up-close look at the new car with a “tech-talk” session in the Wine Country Winner’s Circle during the lunch hour.

At Saturday’s free test session, Infineon will be featuring a number of ticket packages for the main IZOD IndyCar Series Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma event coming to the Valley the weekend of Aug. 24 to 26, highlighted by the launch of the raceway’s new INDYCAR Total Access Tech Ticket.

Costing $99, the IndyCar total access tech ticket includes a reserved Sunday ticket, a Garage/Pit/Pre-Race Pass, and a race-day question and answer session about the 2012 race car. For more information about the ticket package, visit infineonraceway.com/indycar or call 800-870-RACE (7223).

For the 24th year, Infineon Raceway will hold its most highly attended race weekend, the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NACAR Sprint Cup Series, which is slated for Friday through Sunday, June 22 to 24.  

Along with individual race tickets, Infineon will offer a variety of ticket packages to NASCAR in 2012, including the Save Mart Supermarkets 2-Pack – two reserved race-day tickets for $99 – and a chance to get up close to drivers during pre-race festivities with a Pre-Race Pit and Track Pass for $75.

The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, featuring the Sonoma Nationals, comes to Infineon Raceway for the 25th consecutive year the weekend of July 27 through 29, with the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races taking place July 20-22, the weekend preceding the featured Sonoma Nationals.

Infineon Raceway will also host two annual programs for drag racing fans: the STP Summit ET Bracket Drag Racing Series and the raceway’s 24th season of the popular STP Wednesday Night Drags, which includes the “Top the Cops” program.

Opening the Infineon Raceway 2012 season will be the West Coast Moto Jam AMA Pro Road Racing and Supermoto USA on Cinco de Mayo weekend – May 4 through 6.

Also, a new addition to the Infineon Raceway lineup will be the FIA World Touring Car Championship, with its first-ever race on American soil slated for Sept. 21 through 23 – Infineon’s final major-event weekend.
