How Obama diminished America
Editor, Index-Tribune:
It began with an apology tour. Obama has diminished and weakened our great country ever since. Let me count the ways.
Early on, he signed the ill-advised New Start Treaty that permits Moscow to expand and modernize its nuclear stockpile while we drastically cut ours. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta gets shivers contemplating Obama’s major defense cuts.
NATO and the U.S. have worked for 10 years putting in place the framework to deploy an anti-missile defense system. It’s the only line of defense against Iran’s nuclear buildup. Turkey provided a key radar site. Interceptors were on the ground in Poland. Russia, however, objected to the interceptors. So Obama scrapped them. Poland howled.
Vladimir Putin worked a sly maneuver that put him back in as Russia’s president. Even when Medvedev was the nominative president, Putin, former KGB operative, called the shots. It sticks in his craw that Russia lost the Cold War.
More than anything, Putin wants the missile shield technology. He seems to have a willing ally in Obama. In March, at the nuclear summit in Seoul, Korea, a sub-rosa conversation between Obama and Medvedev was accidentally caught on an open mic. The body language was unmistakable. Obama, his hand reassuringly on the other’s leg, said,
“It’s important Putin give me space. After my election, I have more flexibility.”
Moscow’s newspaper Pravda endorses Obama’s re-election. Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez likewise endorses Obama. Think about it!
