High school sets Rush for Aug. 9, 10

Sonoma Valley High School will hold Rush for all students over two days this year.

Rush will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in the library and pavilion at the high school. School starts Wednesday, Aug. 15.

In addition to picking up their class schedule and paying fees, students will also have their photos taken for their ID cards.

Grade level packets can be picked up in the school’s main office from 9 am. to 3 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Aug. 1.

School administrators are encouraging parents to attend Rush with their student.

First, students will have their school ID photo taken in the library. From there, parents and students proceed to the pavilion where they will turn in their completed grade level packet forms and emergency card. Parents and students can save time by filling out all required paperwork before they arrive.

Next, all students must be cleared of all fees, equipment and books from last year.

Costs this year include:

• Technology – For maintenance and materials replacement. It covers 12 computer labs with 469 student computers. The cost is $45.

• Student services/programs – includes Student Body card which provides free admission to home games (excluding NCS games) and a reduced rate to other activities, such as dances and plays. The cost is $80.

• Library materials fee – includes online databases for research. Cost is $25.

• P.E. clothing – T-shirt and shorts, $10 each; sweat shirts and sweat pants, $15 each. Students must wear P.E. approved top and bottom.

Checks may be payable to SVHS. Credit cards, Visa and MasterCharge will be accepted. Bring small bills if paying with cash.

After the student has completed all the steps (photo, forms and fees) then they will receive their class schedule. Information and paperwork will be available for students interested in participating in school athletics, SVHS Boosters Club, Grad Night and school clubs.

Transportation and food services will also be there to collect forms. School calendars and student planners will be available free.

On Sunday, Aug. 12, the Link Crew will have freshman orientation at 2 p.m. in the gym. There is also a freshman parent meeting at 5 p.m. in the Little Theatre and the Boosters Club will be hosting a welcome barbecue at 6 p.m. by the pavilion for students and their parents.
