Grange neighbors want peace, quiet
Valley Forum
I am writing this on behalf of all the residents of Acacia Grove Mobile Home Park. We have an issue that we feel needs to be publicly addressed. We have tried to deal with this in other ways with no success. We are hoping that you can shine some light on this and help us to find some solution through the help of the public.
We share a fence line with the Sonoma Valley Grange hall, which the public is allowed to rent for various events. In the past several months, the Grange Hall has permitted parties where extremely loud music is being played.
The problem is the loud nature of the gatherings and no way to stop them. We have contacted the Grange hall several times via phone and email with no response to our complaints. It appears that the people who manage the hall and book these events are not concerned about the problems that they cause the residents here.
There are also elderly people, whose homes border the fence line of the hall, who get the brunt of the noise and they have no way to obtain their peace and quiet. They simply have to endure the music until the permit expires.
We have contacted the Sheriffs Office and they have been out several times to quiet the events with no success. That is because there is no noise ordinance in the county, and since we are just inside the county line that runs along Verano Avenue, we are unable to silence these gatherings.
The gatherings have increased in frequency and intensity and we are helpless to stop them. The Grange hall needs to take responsibility for its neighbors and show respect for the folks who live around it – especially for the elderly folk who have no other option but to endure the noise.
We have their parties land right in our living rooms and bedrooms every weekend until late hours. This needs to stop. The parties are being held in the wrong place.
We are not criticizing how anyone celebrates, but it needs to be done where there are no residents to be disturbed by the loud nature of the gatherings. Again, let me stress that it is the responsibility of the Grange hall to insure our peace and quiet. We intend to pursue peace and quiet by any means possible. Just because they can permit these gatherings doesn’t mean they should. When did money become more important than people?
