Garden hosts water-wise workshop

Nov 1, 2012 - 07:30 PM

The public is invited to attend a Water Wise Gardening workshop on from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 3, at Sonoma Garden Park. The plant sale will be taking place during regular Harvest Market hours, which are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Grass can be one of the most expensive, not to mention labor intensive, types of gardens one can have. Jeanna Menze, principal landscape architect and owner of the firm Watershed Landscapes, will lead an informative tour of Sonoma Garden Park's various climate-appropriate demonstration gardens which focus on water wise gardening techniques and plants appropriate for Sonoma's summer-dry climate. Menze will teach workshop participants how to create beautiful gardens with plants that require little to no summer water, which will benefit both participants and their water bill.

The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, and costs $10 for Sonoma Ecology Center members and $15 for non-members. All proceeds benefit Sonoma Garden Park, a working farm and model of sustainable agriculture, managed by Sonoma Ecology Center. Sonoma Garden Park was a gift from Pauline Bond, and is located at 19996 Seventh St. E., between MacArthur and Denmark streets in Sonoma.

For more information, or to register for the workshop, visit the Sonoma Ecology Center website at www.sonomaecologycenter.org
